The role involves monitoring reinsurance contracts and premium flows, supporting subsidiaries with their reinsurance needs, and maintaining strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders. The position also contributes to identifying new reinsurance and brokerage opportunities that support the growth of OLEA’s activities across Africa.
Reporting to the Group Placement and Reinsurance Director, the Deputy Director will take a strategic and hands-on role in managing OLEA’s reinsurance and placement strategy across Africa and will have the following responsibilities:
Business & Strategic Development
- Oversee and monitor OLEA’s reinsurance portfolio, ensuring accurate registration, timely updates of contracts, and robust data management,
- Identify opportunities for expansion, implantation, and growth of the department across the continent,
- Lead support to OLEA subsidiaries in their reinsurance placements and coordinate with brokers and reinsurers as required,
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with brokers, reinsurers, cedents, and internal teams across the group,
- Actively identify new growth opportunities, promoting OLEA’s capabilities,
Operations & Team Leadership
- Identify and resolve operational or strategic issues to maintain smooth and efficient business processes,
- Drive continuous improvement of internal processes, reporting tools, and team effectiveness,
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and market best practices,
- Participate in the development of team capabilities, identifying training and skill development opportunities for the current team,
- Mentor and support team members to enhance their competencies, performance, and professional growth,
Who We Are Looking For
- Bilingual professional (French & English) with professional working proficiency in both languages,
- CII qualification or equivalent in insurance or reinsurance,
- Minimum 8 years of experience in insurance or reinsurance, preferably with exposure to reinsurance placement and broking,
- Experience in team management, particularly remote management,
- Ability to mentor, guide, and develop team members to strengthen their competencies,
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills; comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders,
- Experience working in international, multicultural environments,
- Willingness and availability to travel across the OLEA business area.
